LIVE THEATRE REVIEW - BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
WOW Productions’ Beauty and the Beast at the Witham Public Hall was a vibrant, high-energy and thoroughly professional performance that captivated the audience from start to finish. From the opening scene, the production radiated confidence, showcasing an incredible cast whose talent, commitment and enthusiasm shone brightly throughout the show.
The standard of performance across the cast was exceptionally strong, with the singing standing out as a true highlight of the evening. Each musical number was delivered with power, precision and emotion, demonstrating not only impressive vocal ability but also a deep understanding of character and storytelling.
There were several standout performances that truly elevated the production. Frank Thornton as The Beast delivered a compelling and emotionally layered portrayal, balancing strength with vulnerability and drawing the audience into his journey. Sam Howard as Gaston commanded the stage with confidence and charisma, perfectly capturing the bold and theatrical nature of the role. Max Midgely as Lefou brought excellent comedic timing and energy, providing humour and strong character work that complemented Gaston brilliantly.
Madison O’Grady as Mrs Potts delivered a warm and heartfelt performance, full of charm and stage presence, while Luc Roberts as Lumiere dazzled with flair, charisma and engaging characterisation, adding sparkle and theatrical magic to every scene he appeared in.
Georgina Warren as Belle was truly enchanting, bringing grace, warmth and sincerity to the role. Her performance anchored the story beautifully, and her expressive acting and strong vocals made her a captivating presence on stage, effortlessly drawing the audience into the heart of the tale.
A particularly outstanding element of the production was the choreography delivered by the ensemble, which truly made this show amazing. The movement was energetic, polished and incredibly well-synchronised, adding depth and excitement to every musical number. The ensemble’s commitment, precision and joy on stage elevated the overall performance and created a visually dynamic and engaging theatrical experience.
Towards the end of the first half, the big number Be Our Guest was a true showstopper. This spectacular moment perfectly showcased the strength of the ensemble, highlighting not only their vocal talent but also their outstanding choreography and stage presence. The cast radiated pure joy, and their decision to come out into the audience created a wonderfully immersive experience that delighted audiences of all ages and brought the magic of the production to life.
The set design was modern and innovative, with technology playing a significant role in transforming the stage and creating visually impressive scenes. This contemporary approach enhanced the storytelling while maintaining the enchantment of the classic tale. The costumes and wigs were beautifully crafted, allowing the audience to fully escape into the world of Beauty and the Beast and adding richness and authenticity to the production.
Overall, WOW! Productions delivered an uplifting, immersive and exceptionally polished production that celebrated young talent and the joy of live theatre. With high energy performances, standout vocals, fantastic choreography and a dedicated ensemble, this was a truly memorable show that left the audience inspired, entertained and full of admiration for the talented cast and creative team.
